What Happens When We Pray?

God hears us when we pray! And He ALWAYS answers EVERY prayer. But not always (or not usually) how we might think or want.

Our church is going through the book of Acts on Sunday mornings. One thing that stands out is that the early church prayed, believed in prayer, and God answered their prayers! HERE’S the video of my sermon from Acts 12 Sunday May 5th, with my notes below. My hope is that many will take a deeper dive with God and that we will pray as never before in the next 40+ days. And through this experience see God answer prayers in miraculous ways!

We don’t even need to assume that the NT is inspired by God or even trustworthy. While I do believe these things, this post (notes from the sermon I preached on Easter Sunday April 21 2019, VIDEO HERE) is going to focus on three truths that even critical scholars admit. In other words, these three truths are so strong that they are accepted by serious historians, those who believe and accept the historicity of the Bible, and those who don’t.

Behavioral scientists have discovered that we usually see things that we are prepared to see. It’s a network of nerve cells called the “Reticular Activating System,” which is KINDA LIKE a BRAIN FILTER. There are millions of data points floating in our brain at any one point. This “BRAIN FILTER” signals what’s IMPORTANT!

Your Impossible Is God’s Possible!

I’ve always been intrigued by things that seem IMPOSSIBLE, like sneezing with your eyes open, eating just one potato chip (especially Doritos), or a Washington D.C. Sports team winning in the 21st century! (come on Wizards and NATS, this is the year!)

Your Impossible is His Possibile

Have you ever felt like you were in an IMPOSSIBLE situation?

  • Parents, ever feel like making it through the day is IMPOSSIBLE!
  • Maybe you’re in a relationship that feels IMPOSSIBLE to reconcile!
  • Or like me, your bills are piled up and it feels IMPOSSIBLE to get ahead!
  • Or like many, you’re struggling with the same vice, addiction, or bad habit that seems IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of!

Let me encourage you… God loves to turn OUR impossibilities into HIS possibilities.

Racial tension and conflict has flooded the news lately. Rather than point fingers and cast blame, I submit THE answer is quite simple. Not easy or quick, but transformational.

Racial (I prefer using the word ethnic) tensions exist in large part because we don’t listen to one another. It’s hard to understand someone who is different without knowing them. How many ethnically and culturally different people do we really know?

Restoration Church Next Steps

Excited and scared! Those words describe how my wife and I feel about this season of our lives and ministry. We are excited to be on a church planting team, and to be raising prayer and financial support. We are scared as we step out in faith like never before! Have you ever felt that way? Here’s my personal update and a few lessons I’m learning that might help you navigate a similar season of life.

After years of preparation that included doctoral studies, reading stacks of books, attending conferences, church planting boot camp, and formal church planter assessments… we’re stepping forward to be part of Restoration Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland!

Change Ahead! A look back, a look forward!

My blog has been dormant for a while! I’ve been working as a seasonal UPS Delivery Car Driver since October. There were a few stretches the last few weeks I didn’t see my kids for a few days! Change ahead!

New Years gives us all an opportunity to reflect back and look forward. 2014 was a year full of change for me and my family. 2015 will be an even bigger year of change.

I’m excited and honored to speak at Mount Pleasant Church’s Sunday afternoon service. The third Sun of each month they focus on Evangelism and Missions.

My message will come from Luke 10:25-37, “Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing!”
